“The future belongs to those who are intuitive.”
~ Sonia Choquette
Newsflash!
We're entering a new era. Are you ready?
Daniel Pink, author of A Whole New Mind: Why Right Brainers Will Rule the Future says, “The future belongs to a different kind of person with a different kind of mind: artists, inventors, storytellers — creative and holistic "right-brain" thinkers whose abilities mark the fault line between who gets ahead and who doesn't.”
Whoa, did you catch that? He’s predicting a fault line between those who’ll be able to navigate the Creative Age and those who won’t.
Culturally, we got a heads up about the coming shift with songs and movies like “The Age of Aquarius,” or “Revenge of the Nerds.” Talk about validation! The kids who got bullied for being smart are now running the tech empires and soon, the intuitive (possibly considered creative misfits and outcasts), will have their time in the sun. Sensitives and other right-brainers will be valued for their contributions, and visionaries will lead the charge.
But to understand where we're going, let's quickly review where we've been.
Historically humans roamed from place to place during the Hunting and Gathering Age, and then began to stay put in The Agricultural Age when people put down roots, and landowners with fertile land reigned supreme for centuries.
The 1700’s ushered in The Age of Enlightenment, an intellectual and philosophical movement that dominated the world of ideas, including science, music, and artistic freedom (for men).
In the 1800’s, things started to speed up, literally, when we transitioned into The Industrial Age. Steam engines and factories changed the landscape and slavery was abolished. Factory workers, new manufacturing processes, and social organization gave rise to the middle class and economic freedom.
The 19th and 20th centuries brought us The Technological Age — electricity, the telegraph, telephone, the expansion of the railway, and of course, the television.
The 21st century, so far, has belonged to The Digital Age, that of the computer, and right now information is king, but hold onto your hats and fasten your seatbelt, because we’re being prepped for The Creative or Conceptual Age where Creatives, Intuitives and Empaths will become powerful, influential leaders, problem solvers, and titans.
New solutions will be created by visionaries
with big ideas. Are you one of them?
For years, people have been encouraged to identify strongly with a particular side of the brain — right or left — and the functions it controls and were lead to believe that one hemisphere was “better” than the other.
For example, logic has been flaunted as superior to imagination, while sequencing and linear thinking have been pitted against holistic thinking. The cultural bias of valuing left-brain attributes over right-brain features have left creative scars on an entire generation or more. Children were often scolded for coloring outside the lines, dismissed for having new ideas, punished for wanting to follow their dreams, and forced to conform to the image that society, or their families, deemed important.
But what if you grow up and want to crunch numbers AND write a ballad? What if you like to know your facts AND be in touch with your feelings? We’re divisive enough as a country, we don’t need to be in conflict with our own brain’s natural gifts.
Imagine for a
moment what’s possible when you harness the power of both your right brain AND
your left brain to work on your behalf, uniting possibility with strategy.
